Lil Woodworkers

Hi Pals!

I am always in favor of programs and outlets that give kids a chance to put their imagination and creativity to good use.  So when my buddy Michael told me about Lil Woodworkers, a woodworking shop offering classes for kids and teens, I thought "That sounds awesome! ...and potentially dangerous" :)

Lil Woodworkers is the brainchild of Michael's 'work wife' (their words), Tommy. The shop was opening soon and Lil Woodworkers needed a logo! Since I am inclined to support such endeavors, I took on the job of drawing up Tommy's three kids into a cartoon logo for him.

It was a fun task, and I really like the way it turned out! Have a look...

You should also check out the Lil Woodworkers face book page. And if you happen to live in the San Antonio area, and have kiddos, sign them up for a class! I'm sure it'll be fun! (and P.S.- I do believe there are adult classes available as well)

Allyson Makes: Nuggies, and Hallmarket!

HEY-dee-HO, Everyone!

I want to let you know about an awesome little art/craft fair coming up this month, called Hallmarket! I'm pretty excited about it, because all kinds of really talented artists from Hallmark will be selling stuff they made, and I can't wait to see (and buy) it all! :)
...And guess what! I'll be selling stuff too!

Here's a little sneak peek of some little monsters I'll be selling. They're called Nuggies, and they all have names and personalities...

So if you live in Kansas City, come on out September 29th and buy some sweet art!! You won't regret it! I'll see you there!!

Allyson Makes: Silly Monsters

Hello everyone!

My way-cool friends Samantha and Phil are having a baby boy! They wanted something fun to hang on the wall in the baby room, so they asked me to make some silly monsters for them. I thought that was an awesome idea, so I heartily agreed.

First I got to work and sketched up some monster ideas...

Then, after some consideration, Samantha and Phil chose four monsters for me to complete. So I got out my watercolors and colored pencils and got to work on:

Wendell...

Peg...

Daisy...

and Walt...

We're all pretty happy with how they turned out. Let's just hope they're a hit with baby Will!

Allyson Makes: Casual Script

Hi Friends!!

Last week I got to take a little creative renewal trip out to Hallmark's Kearney farm, to enjoy the scenery and try my hand at some casual script. I'd never used a dip pen before, but I caught on quickly enough, and had a lot of fun with it. Check out the pretty words that I wrote!

Allyson Makes: Baby Animal Face Blanket

Hola Friends!

I finally finished this baby blanket after a few hiccups (running out of yarn... not being able to find any more of the yarn in the same color... that kid of stuff). But I knocked out the finishing touches last night, thanks to a few hours on the couch with a Monk marathon.

I crocheted a mini afghan, about 2.5 x 2.5 ft, then made a few triangle pieces for the ears and a bigger one with a right angle for the head. Sewed them all up with some felt added for details, crocheted about 12 stitches in two rows around a circle for the eyes, and voila!

The blanket is for little baby Gordon, who belongs to two pretty awesome friends- Sophie and Michael Pullen. Check out Sophie's blog here. She writes about her family and interior design stuff. Maybe she'll post a picture of little Gordie wrapped up in his new blankie when it arrives! (hint hint).

Anyway, hope he loves it!

Allyson Makes: Jared Plant Recital Poster

Howdy friends!

I made this poster for Jared, and wanted to show you! Do you like it? I did all the lettering by hand and based the illustration on this picture of Gene Autry...

...and this illustration that Jared found...

If you live in the Milwaukee area, you should totally go see Jared play. He's got some mad guitar skillz. You won't be disappointed. I promise!

ALLYSON wants to fight!

Hey friends!

This is a little collage I made for the Pokemon Battle Royale going on at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis. The show opens April 20th and features work from 151 different artists (one for each of the 151 original pokemon). Check it out if you're in the area! I'm pretty sure it's gonna be awesome!
